The Doris Mollel Foundation, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, commemorated World Prematurity Day by conducting a discussion with mothers who gave birth too soon on challenges that they face as they raise preterm babies most importantly to parental leave. Guest of Honor was the Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs H.E. Augustine Mahiga, special guest to the discussion was Dr Amb. Gertrude Ibengwé Mongella, Founder, Advocacy for Women in Africa (AWA), special advisor to the ECA Executive Secretary and to the UNESCO Director General and former President of the Pan-African Parliament.

Mothers requested for 6 months of maternity leave and requested 1 month for their partners i.e. the fathers. The Minister has taken the request for discussion with other Ministers of which the matter belongs to.
